I've been helping out with the 2012 Remus/Sirius Games (Go! Read! Vote! There is still time!), and a few weeks ago, I apparently lost my mind and volunteered to put together an ebook of this year's entries, as a gift for our participants. You guys, 47 marvelously talented, creative people have submitted entries this year, both art and stories. Easy-peasy, right?

Fortunately, I don't actually have to do that much. For perspective, I managed to get most of it done last night. All of the stories have been checked over before they were submitted, so I just have to format them and maybe run a quick spellcheck. A few of them have presented a bit of a challenge, with some complicated formatting that I'm having to adapt for a different medium, but I'm trying to keep everything as true to the author/artist's creative vision as possible. Unfortunately, there are limitations to the PDF format. Hopefully people will understand where I have made one or two necessary changes.

Y'all, it's looking very much like a total page count of ~2150. Holy crap! That's a whole lot of creative effort there. Our OTP is that much richer than it was at the beginning of the month. Thank you, everyone, for your hard work.

We're ten days into the 2012 Remus/Sirius Games, and there are already so many astoundingly creative submissions, both art and fic, and I happen to know there are still more amazing fanworks to come. People seem to have found this year's theme of folklore, fairy tales, legend, and mythology truly inspiring. Please stop by and check out the entries, comment, and VOTE VOTE VOTE!

I just got bunnied for another longish R/S fic. Wrote up 2000+ words of notes. What the hell is wrong with me? Can someone please tell my brain I have more than enough on my fandom plate at the moment?

I got a one-week extension on my black_circle_dj fic, which means I need to light a fire under myself RIGHT NOW and finish it. Also, I have that whole ACOC thing that needs to be written. I can sleep when I am dead, right?

Well, it's my weekend now, so maybe I should be getting on with things.

It occurs to me that I've been sort of quiet here lately when it comes to publicly talking about where I'm at with my writing. I am working on some things, as many of you will no doubt be happy to know. The mid-March deadline for [community profile] black_circle_dj R/S fest is looming, so that needs to take top priority at the moment. Since it's a fest fic, I'm been trying not to say too much about my plans publicly, but I have about 2500 words written so far on that, and I plan to work some more on it today, since I'm off from work for the first time in six days.

I've also been informed that PotterFic Weekly podcast will be reviewing A Conspiracy of Cartographers, Year One for the first and second episodes of their fifth season, and I am deeply excited about this. I got to listen to the rough cut of the first episode last night, and it made me very happy in my belly, and excited about getting back to work on ACOC (once the fest is out of the way).

Since my brain doesn't like to listen to me, it's been working on fine-tuning ACOC Y6. This is Not Helpful. But I do have a much better idea of what the overarching themes for that year are going to be, and how I'm going to turn that into a plot. However, the only way to actually get there is to go through Y2-Y5. So yeah.... Just have to keep reminding myself of that.

I wish I had more to report, but that's about it for now. Trying to stay focussed and not get overwhelmed.

[community profile] black_circle_dj R/S fest requires that their authors use beta readers. I do not normally use them, because I feel like I do okay without, and because I'm usually super-impatient to post something as soon as I've finished it, and I don't like waiting around while someone else pokes holes in my writing. But...I know that I do sometimes miss stuff.

So if someone with a competent working knowledge of the English language would like to volunteer to look over my fest entry before I submit it, I would be more than grateful. It's Remus/Sirius (obviously), it will probably be a longish oneshot (around 6000-8000 words? I haven't actually started writing yet), and it's due in mid-March. Your part of the process will probably not be time-consuming, but I will warn now for ANGST and TRAGEDY cranked up to 11.

Oog. Just picked my prompt for [community profile] black_circle_dj R/S fest. Somebody hold me! This isn't gonna be pretty....

Can't believe how much mod chatter is already going on about this year's R/S Games. *grins* *rubs hands together* I think y'all are going to enjoy the theme.

In other news, I've got ~2500 words of the next chapter of ACOC written. Which would be great, if I hadn't written ~1700 of those words back in October. *sigh* Ah, well. I'm awake now with nothing else to do, so I should WRITE, DAMMIT!
pica_scribit: Pica Pica (Default)

So, I just signed up. Who else is playing?

ETA: I'm listening to songs and brainstorming, and everything I've come up with so far that I want to write is REALLY FUCKING DARK. What is wrong with me? Is this a natural reaction to just having finished writing a fluffy romance, and getting ready to move on to childish shenanigans?

Tomorrow is the last day of posting on this year's Remus/Sirius Games. There have been some truly amazing entries this year, both stories and artwork. Everyone did a fantastic job, and that kind of hard work deserves to be rewarded. The polls will remain open for about a week following the final posting, and I know that everyone involved would really appreciate it if people would come by and check out at least a few of the entries, and vote on them. There is everything from adorable fluff to super-hot smut to gut-churning angst to engaging historical AUs. There are long fics and short fics and art to look at. In short, there is something for everyone. So come check it out, and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!

First, I've finished editing all of ACOC to date, and I've uploaded the new versions to my website and ff.net. Which means...writing may now commence! I'm a bit terrified about this. The story is getting to the point where I'm having to hold a lot of details in my head, and I'm worried I will forget something really obvious.

Second, we've completed out first week of posting at [livejournal.com profile] rs_games, and there is some amazing stuff now available for your enjoyment. As a mod, I'm not supposed to have favourites, but of course I do. I just can't mention them. It's going to be a few weeks before I start posting new ACOC, just so you know, so you should definitely check out the Games if you're looking for something to tide yourself over in the meantime.

The Remus/Sirius 2011 Games are kicking off tomorrow, and I am super excited! I've just spent the last week reading through entries. I've laughed. I've cried. I've drooled a little. I've been out of the fandom for a while, and this was just what I needed to remind me what an amazing, talented group of people we all are. So do yourselves a favour, and add [livejournal.com profile] rs_games to your watchlist. Throughout the month of October, we'll be posting new works by a wide variety of artists and authors for your enjoyment. Join us! Read! Comment! Vote for your favourites! I'll see you there....

I've spent the last several days reading over entries for the [livejournal.com profile] rs_games. One of my tasks is rating the level of angst in each fic on a scale of 1-5, just to be sure we don't post big wodges of angst all at once, and can intersperse them with lighter stuff. Anyway, just for fun, I thought I'd share the scale I'm using:

1 - Rainbows and puppy snuggles! *glitter*
2 - Minor character conflict resolved. Yay, happy ending!
3 - Moderate conflict, likely positive resolution.
4 - Consistent conflict/downer themes, positive resolution less likely.
5 - Unrelenting tragedy and heartbreak. I'm never coming out from under the bed.

I read a longish 5 earlier today, and I think I'm done for the night as a result. It's just ... I can't even .... You guys are killing me dead.

But taking the night off from reading means I'm planning on putting a few hours in on ACOC, which I assume is fine with most of you.

I'm sort of wishing I'd chosen to participate in the [livejournal.com profile] rs_games this year, because I know exactly the story I would have written. Dammit.

I'd have been Team Sirius, and the story would have been a long, non-magic AU with lots of romance and porn. I was bunnied for it months ago, and took a ton of notes, but it just never materialised. Ah, well .... I'll get around to it at some point.

Oh, weird!

So I just got notified that one of my fics has been nominated for the Deathly Hallows Awards. The weird part? I've been nominated in the het category. Who knew? The story is The Zenith and Nadir of Severus Snape, which is a Severus/Lily fic that I started writing bloody ages ago, and have only written one chapter of. OK, so that chapter stands alone alright as PWP, but someday I do plan to finish it. Probably when I reach the relevant part of the timeline on A Conspiracy of Cartographers (ie, Year Five).

Anyway, nominations end Dec 1 (and of course you are more than welcome to nominate any of my other fics!) and voting runs from Dec 10 to 30.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] rs_games reveals are going to be posted sometime today, so if you've been wondering which story was mine, you'll know soon enough. I'll be reposting it here, along with a related (porny) fic that I've been saving for the occasion probably sometime tomorrow.

Edit: Games reveals have been posted! Visit the comm to see the list!

- 2700 words last night. Expect A Cure for Nightmares update on Wednesday!

- Today is the LAST DAY of the [livejournal.com profile] rs_games, which means you still have several hours to read and get your votes in, even if you only read one or two of the wonderful stories on offer there.

- The end of the R/S Games means that I will FINALLY be allowed to post my own entry here TOMORROW! Also? I have written a sort of spin-off from it that I haven't really been allowed to share yet.

So that's two complete (oh, and did I mention porny?) stories for you tomorrow, as well as an update on Wednesday.
Still love me?

Edit: Apparently I am wrong and I suck, but there will be an update on Wednesday, and the rest will be posted soon soon soon!

I apologise for my continued lack of existence. Life is being busy. I still do not have a place to live or a job, but hopefully once I sort out those things, I will have time for writing again.

In the meantime, the final fics and art have been posted for the [livejournal.com profile] rs_games, but voting is still open until Nov 7, so go, read, comment, vote!

Oh, and do the other kind of voting, too, if you're over 18 and American, because that's important, too. These people and initiatives DO affect our lives, even if it doesn't always seem that way. Change is often slow, but it can only happen if people like us take the time to do what we can for a better tomorrow.
