Wolfstar on Dreamwidth
Dec. 9th, 2018 12:13 pmIt looks as if the most populous (but by no means active) general community for Wolfstar shippers on DW is
puppylove, if anyone is looking for one. Let's bring it back to life by posting all our favorite Wolfstar content and meta!
Anyone still here?
Jul. 31st, 2018 03:12 pm Oof. It's been a long time since I used DreamWidth. Does anyone else still use it? Or is it basically a sad fandom ghost town? I'm mostly on tumblr these days, but I've sort of been hiding out from fandom lately, because I feel guilty for not writing anything for a long time. I blame my brain. I was diagnosed with ADHD not too long ago, and I'm only just starting to learn all the ways it has impacted my life. A lot of things make more sense now.
I was just thinking today how much I miss LiveJournal, and the sense of community we used to have there. I wish we could buy it back from the Russians. I can't even access my accounts anymore, because I refuse to agree to their homophobic Terms of Service.
Anyway, I still exist, and still have fanfic on the brain. Hope everyone else is well.

Greetings, My Dear Children!
Nov. 29th, 2014 05:26 pmIt is I, Pica the Lazy! No, but really, I have been doing things, I swear. I just frequently forget to post about them on here these days, because I've mostly moved over to tumblr (please feel free to follow me). I'm still working on my massive editing and podficing project, to remove problematic tropes from my fic, and improve reader accessibility. At this point, I have edited and podfic'd 42 of my 56 stories, though many of the longer fics are still left to do. I've noted in my archives on AO3 and FF.net which stories have been edited and which have not. Podfics can be downloaded from my AO3 archive.
a few notable projects worth mentioning here:
- I have edited and podfic'd all three of my popular Remus/Sirius AU fics (A Cure For Nightmares, Highland Fling, TransFigured).
- A Cure For Nightmares and Highland Fling each have a new chapter included in the edit, and TransFigured has a new sequel, TransLate.
- The Highland Fling podfic includes yours truly giving my best attempt at a Scottish accent for Remus and the other Scottish characters, and I changed the fic to give Remus a chronic illness (Lupus), analogous to his lycanthropy in canon.
- I've edited the text (though not yet the podfic) for The Square Peg to give my nonbinary Hagrid gender-neutral pronouns.
- The Diary of Regulus Black and its companion, Consolation Prize (formerly known as Fuck Toy and The Redemption of Severus Snape) have both had complete re-writes, which I posted about here a few months back.
- One Hell of a Woman was edited to make both Kingsley Shacklebolt and Helga Hufflepuff trans.
- A History of Cartographers was expanded to include chapters for both of Snape's and Lily's parents, giving some background on both families.
- Sense Memory, my 2014 R/S Games mod exhibition piece, has been posted to my archives, with podfic.
What's next? I'm glad you asked! (Assuming you did....) The time has come for a full edit of A Conspiracy of Cartographers. I plan to remove problematic material, update my headcanons, re-podfic Year One, and then continue working on the fic. I'll be talking about the changes I am making to the fic as I go on tumblr, but I will not post the edited versions until the full edit is complete, for the sake of continuity. Stay tuned ....

Title: Vicious Rumours
Word Count: 96k
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, Lily Evans Potter, Severus Snape, Gideon Prewett, Fabian Prewett, Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Helsing Gandolfsson (OC), Poppy Pomfrey
Additional Tags: Marauders, MWPP Era, Pre-Slash, Werewolves, Hogwarts Second Year, Hogwarts, Friendship, Family, Families of Choice, First War with Voldemort, POC James Potter, Peter is an actual character
Chapter Summary: Rumours are flying that werewolves were responsible for the destruction of Dunheath.
Excerpt:
"Not all wizards hate werewolves," Sirius pointed out, interrupting him. "Just stupid ones who don't know any better. You can't hate all wizards just because some of them are tossers. That's just as bad as wizards hating all werewolves."
"It's not the same thing," Remus burst out, trying to keep the pleading note from his voice. "You don't know what it's like, having all these laws and rules telling you what you can and can't do a hundred times a day. If I get caught breaking or forgetting one, it's not detention I have to worry about. I could go to prison. Wizards made those laws, and other wizards kept quiet and went along with it. Whether the three of you agree with them or not doesn't matter. It doesn't affect you -- at least not any more than you decide you want it to. I don't get to decide that. No matter how 'good' I am, I don't get to live my life in peace. I don't ever get to not think about it. If I say 'I hate wizards' -- if every werewolf in the world says it -- maybe your feelings will be hurt, but you still get to live your lives however you want. It's not at all the same thing as wizards hating werewolves."
Reminder: I am way more active on tumblr than LJ these days. Come find me there!

Happy 10th Anniversary!
Jun. 9th, 2014 06:48 pmI wanted to have a new chapter of ACOC for y'all today, since it is the 10th anniversary of the day I began writing Survivor's Guilt (also of me writing fanfic at all, and shipping Remus/Sirius), but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I had a dentist appointment today, and my whole face is numb, and I just can't focus on writing. There will be a new chapter sometime in the next few days, though, I promise. In the meantime, I am going to eat pudding and watch The West Wing
Thank you, one and all, for 10 wonderful years. You are all marvelous.

Editing, Podficing, New ACFN & ACOC Y2
May. 23rd, 2014 08:29 amTHINGS are happening. Yes, many things. I hope you will be excited about some of them.
I have been doing some editing. Yes, I can hear you groaning from here, but this is important to me. I have been learning a lot over the past couple of years regarding social justice issues, especially as they pertain to media, and I have come to realise that my stories contain a lot of problematic tropes. I have a lot of young readers, and I am not comfortable thinking that they could come away from my stories with unhealthy ideas about what is acceptable behaviour and what is romantic, so I am gradually going through and fixing things. In some cases, it's just a matter of word choice here and there. In others, some re-writing is required. I am also working on improving representation across the spectrum of race, gender, and sexuality, including adopting the popular headcanon that James Potter was black. I believe that my stories can and will be better.
Once each story has been edited, I will record a podfic (yes, even the porny ones) to increase accessibility for readers who have a difficult time with text. You can check my archive to see which stories have been edited and podfic'd so far, but here is a current list:
Painting Music - David Levithan (Boy Meets Boy), Paul/Noah, rated E, 3200 words
In Dreams Alone - Doctor Who, Ten/Rose, rated G, 400 words
Family - Diana Gabaldon (Outlander), Brianna/Roger, rated G, 700 words
Affection Falling Just Short of Love - WTNV, Earl Harlan, rated T, 4300 words
Oasis - WTNV, Cecil/Carlos, rated G, 400 words
Lazy Evening - WTNV, Cecil/Carlos, rated E, 1000 words
M.A.R.Y.S.U.E. Must Die? - Potterverse, OFCs, rated T, 12,000 words
The Plot Bunny - Potterverse, Severus Snape, rated T, 1800 words
Backstage - Potterverse, Remus/Sirius, rated T, 8300 words
And most recently, A Cure For Nightmares, my all-time most popular story, to which I have just added a new chapter, between Ch. 11, and what was Ch. 12.
I am way more active on tumblr than anywhere else these days, so if you're looking for updates on my writing progress, that's a good place to check.
There was something else I was going to mention, I think. Let me see ... what was it? Oh, yes!
There is a brand new chapter posted for A Conspiracy of Cartographers, Year Two.

EVENING PROPHET

Village Destruction Result of "Hooliganism" Says MLE
At a press conference this morning Magical Law Enforcement spokeswizard Cornelius Fudge declared Tuesday's attack on the Muggle village of Dunheath to be "nothing more than hooliganism". The press conference was held in response to rumours that the attack was an act of terrorism.
"No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the incident," said Fudge, "and no further leads have been uncovered. If you ask me, it was probably an accident. Someone trying a spell they did not have the ability to control."
In response to questions regarding public safety, Fudge said, "As far as we know, this was an isolated incident that got out of hand. Let's not overreact. Fiendfyre is notoriously difficult to contain. The perpetrator or perpetrators are likely just as shocked by the results of their careless actions as anyone. This department does not anticipate any further incidents."
When asked if there was any truth to the rumours that the organisation known as the Death Eaters might be responsible, or that the attack might be linked to the Easter Murders, Fudge dismissed the idea.
"The Death Eaters are a respectable organisation dedicated to the promotion of Wizarding interests, and Voldemort is a respectable wizard. There is no evidence connecting the group to any sinister activity or acts of violence."
The wizard styling himself Lord Voldemort, who is rumoured to be the head of the Death Eater organisation, could not be reached for comment at the time of this printing.
Muggle officials are reporting the incident as a "gas leak", which is the sort of thing that can cause a large explosion under certain circumstances.
