Question: I know not everyone is familiar with spoken or written Scots dialect. Would anyone like me to include some sort of glossary to make Remus's speech more intelligible?

Note: An enormous THANK YOU to my Scot-picker, [livejournal.com profile] _jenc_, whose diligence keeps me from embarrassing myself in public (at least, anymore than I already do), and who has encouraged me and given great comment for years. This one's for you, babe!

Excerpt:
He could tell right away that the third whiskey was something special. The aroma was completely different from that of the previous two, and when he brought it to his lips, the smooth, smoky flavor was like nothing he had ever tasted before. It sang in his throat without any of the burn the other liquor had carried.

When he lowered the glass, Remus was watching him. "Well?"

Sirius nodded. "It's good."

"Aye, it is."

Remus raised his own glass, closing his eyes and savoring the whiskey in his mouth for a long moment before swallowing. His tongue darted out to collect a drop that lingered on his lower lip, and Sirius realized he was staring again. He quickly buried his nose in his own glass before Remus could notice. If he didn't stop doing that, the other man might start to think he was gay, too, when really he was only a bit tipsy, and happened to be enjoying Remus's company.

AHHHHHHHHHHH. I always want more!! Lovely, lovely. You have such a way with words. Sirius found himself blushing, and immediately blamed the drink for the thought that had flitted through his brain at Remus's words. hee. OH Sirius! I'm not usually a fan of AU's, and I don't usually like reading stories with strong dialect written out that way....but I am so enjoying this and can't wait for more! I love the addition of the pictures too. Not like we need them, as your words do a wonderful job of describing the scenery. :)

*grin* Thanks! I'm trying not to post this story too quickly (at least waiting for [livejournal.com profile] _jenc_ to look over each chapter before I do), but the truth is, Ch 4 is almost finished, and is currently feeling like one of the most realistic and intensely porny things I have ever written. *tease tease*

YOU TEASE! :P

Also, I just saw your question posted at the very beginning, and I would say I would find a glossary helpful, if you feel so inclined. While I love that authors are true to the dialect/language that their characters are from, I do find that sometimes having to "decode" what they are saying takes me out of the story a bit. Granted, I think I am pretty darn good at the self-decoding. But I can't be the only one out there that might be helped by something like that. :)

I'll work on the glossary tonight and update it to the chapters posted so far. Most of Remus's dialogue is just phonetic spelling, but there are a few Scots words that I know may not be familiar to most people, even native English speakers.

OK, the glossaries are now posted on chapters one and two, plus a teaser glossary for chapter three.

I totally do need to get back over there. Maybe next year? But I'm afraid I'm with Sirius on the whisky. Not a huge fan. Maybe that's blasphemy, but there it is. I do love the Highland Winery at Moniak Castle up by Beauly, though. Moniak Mead is one of the best I've ever had, and their fruit wines are fabulous.
